PURPOSE
The wearing of school uniform is essential:
- To maintain the school’s atmosphere, identity, prestige, tone and spirit,
- To promote within the students a sense of pride and school identity and enhance the supervision and safety on excursions,
- To provide clothing that is practicable, presentable and affordable,
- To eliminate peer group pressure to wear less appropriate clothing to school.
GUIDELINES
- Students wear the Surrey Hills Primary School uniform on a daily basis unless exemption has been granted by the Principal, in line with Department of Education, Employment and Training policy. As with all other areas of financial difficulty, parents will be encouraged to make arrangements with the Principal regarding provision of uniform items for their children.
- A special commemorative jumper will be offered to all Year 6 students for purchase.
- Parents are to be strongly encouraged to affix name tags to all items of uniform.
- All items of school uniform are available Fashion Clubwear. Liaison with Fashion Clubwear will be co-ordinated by a Uniform Sub-Committee of School Council. Second hand uniform items are also available to parents.
- A current uniform list will be made available to parents on a regular basis.
- Surrey Hills Primary School Dress Code will be in line with the School’s SunSmart Policy where possible.
- The school uniform should encourage students to look smart as well as serving their practical needs.
- No jewellery may be worn with the exception of a watch or plain studs.
- Hair below the shoulders is to be tied back as per the Head Lice Policy
- SHPS school bags with either the new or old logo will be accepted
- Staff will actively monitor and encourage the wearing of full school uniform.
IMPLEMENTATION
- Uniform is to be worn as seasonally indicated. Summer is deemed to be February to April 30 and Term 4 each year. Winter is from May – to end of Term 3 each year. On certain days eg School Photos, School Sports specific uniform may be designated at the Principal’s discretion.
- Items of uniform purchased from outlets other than the Surrey Hills Primary School Fashion Clubwear supply must be of same colour, style and fabric to those available from Fashion Clubwear.
- Students are also required to supply an Art smock and Library Bag.
- Free Dress Days will be approved as appropriate by the Principal.
- Items recognised as school uniform include:
Navy polo shirt with SHPS logo - short or long sleeved all year
Navy Polar Jacket with SHPS logo all year
Navy Polar vest with SHPS logo all year
Navy windcheater with SHPS logo all year
Navy trackpants all year
Navy cargo pants with or without logo - short or long all year
Navy rugby shorts with SHPS logo all year
Summer dress in SHPS check and style summer only
Winter tunic or skirt in SHPS tartan and style(with white shirt
or white skivvy) winter only
Navy tights only with tunic and skirt winter only
White shirt with SHPS logo worn with skirt or tunic only winter only
Navy slouch hat with SHPS logo Terms 1 & 4
Navy school bag with SHPS logo all year
Black shoes – (lace up or Velcro, or filled toe T-bar shoes.)
No sandals or thongs.
Non black runners may be worn for sport and PE only
(non marking soles) all year
White socks – plain or with school logo all year
Navy bike shorts which may only be worn under dresses, tunics, all year
skirts and shorts
Hair ties, head bands etc – school colors or speciality check only all year
(Navy or sky blue, red or white)
EVALUATION
Regular evaluation will take place based on the feedback of parents, Fashion Clubwear and staff. School Council ratified 2010. Re-endorsed June 2013
